FEB - 1 2000
Mr. Ronald Maisel NAATS Eastern Regional Director P.O. Box 1975 Manassas, Virginia 22110
Dear Mr. Maisel:
In accordance with FAA Order 7400.8G, Special Use Airspace, we will conduct a formal review of the Special Use Airspace (SUA) that is operational in the FAA Eastern Region airspace.
The data for airspace use during Fiscal Year 1999, due to be submitted to the FAA no later than January 31, 2000, will be an appropriate base for the review. The review will give us the opportunity to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of our region's airspace program and provide an opportunity to determine improvements or modifications that may be needed. Scheduled use, return of the airspace to the controlling agency, and needed changes for both the military and the civil users benefit will be of particular concern.
We request that you nominate and submit the name of one representative from your organization to participate in the review as part of the FAA group. Data developed from informal reviews in the past will be distributed to the team members and a workshop will be conducted to review the current military submission in preparation for the formal review.
We request that you submit the name of the nominee no later than February 15, 2000. If you require additional information, please contact my office, at (718) 553-4500.
Sincerely,
Franklin D. Hatfield Manager, Air Traffic Division

Dear Mr. Hatfield, Thank You for the opportunity to leave a NAATS representative for the Special Use Airspace (SUA) review work group. As you know, the Southwestern Region already has in place, at DFW AFSS, an approved and tested system specifically related to Special Use Airspace. Additionally, Special Use Airspace is addressed by the Administrator's JSIT group and the FSS Renaissance work group.
I have selected Mr. Patrick Less from ISP IAFSS to be the NAATS representative for this very important review. Mr. Less can be reached at work 516-471-7395 or at home 516-736-1132. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ronald A. Maisel
